Title: Marlene Rogers' 70th Birthday
Forum:
Date: Monday, November 8, 2010 at 00:46 AM
Author: Marlene Rogers' daughter

This is a message from Marlene Roger's daughter.

As a 70th birthday suprise I am dragging my mom (kicking and screaming) into/onto the internet.  She's been pretty resistant to technology - closed out her email account, has never seen this wonderful OHS site (bless you Ralph Posey for creating such a wonderul collection of memories and access for your classmates), refuses to text - and frowns on texting in her presence (gasp!!), and ... no facebook page -

So, for her birthday - 9 days from now (November 16th) I have created a new email account, a profile on this website and a facebook page.  If you remember my mom then please take a minute to do one or all of the following:

  • Send her a birthday card on this site
  • Send her a birthday email to her new email account mrlnrgrs@gmail.com
  • Friend her on Facebook
  • Share pictures with her on Facebook.  I'm not sure how to share pictures, but I did add a few photo albums to get her started.
  • If you are into snail mail drop her a card at PO Box 30016 Midland, Texas 79712

Don't expect a response from her right away as the big reveal is not until next week.  Mom and I are attending a 70th birthday mother/daughter three day slumber party in Granbury (starting November 11th) with several of her OHS classmates (Linda Sides, Vera Crawford, Cookie New, Anita Greene Wilhelmi, and Virgie Lou Boyd.  I plan to suprise her with a full email box and profiles here and on facebook!  The gift that keeps on giving -

Happy Thanksgiving to all of you OHS folks.  Don't we have so much to be thankful for?

Richard Porter's World Famous Pecan Pie recipe

I make my own crust but it's getting to be a lost art so if you have to buy one, go ahead.

Ingredients:

Third cup of very soft butter blended with one cup light brown sugar

Add five eggs, one at a time.  Tsp vanilla, quarter tsp salt and one cup white Karo.

Rinse your Karo cup with some very hot water (maybe a tbsp or so and pour into mix.  It makes the pie a little less syrupy sweet.

Pour into pie shell and pour on top two cups chopped pecans.  Pat them down a bit.  Bake at 350 until the shell is well browned (maybe 45 minutes or so.

This one will impress your Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner guests.

Let me know how it turns out.

Warm regards

Richard Porter

Wayne,

Check the classmate profile and choose who you want to correspond with and no one else can read it.

Betty Jo. At this late date I want to thank you for your reply my problem from awhile back. If you can let our classmates know Linda Sides is in a home for dementia patients in the Grandbury area it would be appreciated. She is a lonely lady and has been a giver all of her life so classmates stop in if you can.

I am sorry to hear about Linda. I was wondering what had happened to her.

Which facility is she in, you said she is in Grandbury. Does she still recognize people. Would it upset to have visitors?

Thanks,

Pat Sapp Mims

Dear Classmates,  Talked per email to Jeanne Purswell Stark this past week  and she wrote the physician had told her that the pancreatic cancer has spread to her liver.  She is very upbeat and has a beautiful attitude. She is getting chemo every Tuesday now.  Gwon Langford Moore, Nancy Gann Taylor and I are going pray at 9AM in the morning for her if anyone wants to join us .  Judy Sue Evans Schoen

My youngest daughter, Allison and 40 sonething, said, after looking at the site, "Hey dad, did you know Ralph Posey?"  I said, "Yes."  She soid, "Well you both were born of the 3rd of December."  You just never know about the person sitting next to you in study hall.  Ken Paynter
