Michael Steele "Mike" Laird was born on September 4, 1939 in Odessa, Texas. He was the first-born son of Otis and Maxine Laird. Mike grew up in Odessa, Texas and was a graduate of Odessa High School (1958) and Texas Tech University (1963) with a degree in accounting and later earned his CPA.

Mike worked for Arthur Young Accounting firm in Fort Worth, Texas. He also worked for the IRS in Lubbock, Texas. He transferred to the Dallas office in 1972 and his family settled in Plano. He spent 10 years in sales at Rusco Electronics. He also worked for the Department of Defense and finished his final ten years with the Treasury Department before retiring in 2005.

Mike had a passion for serving others. He taught youth Sunday School for many years. He loved teaching kids from fifth grade up to high school. He even taught a co-ed class of senior citizens. He also taught boys in Royal Ambassadors in Lubbock and in Plano for 25 years. He took them on numerous camping trips, rallies at Baylor University, and coached them in RA basketball. He touched every person’s life that he came in contact with. Although he was a man of few words, he was wise, compassionate, giving, loving, kind and truly had a servant’s spirit. He lived by the philosophy of “God First, Others Second and Self Last”. His favorite saying was, “God is good all the time and all the time God is good.”

Mike is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Sylvia; two daughters, Jana Brockman and husband Ken of Plano, Tx. and Lesa Ramirez and husband Eric of Carrollton, Tx; eight grandchildren, Melissa Hensel, Brandon Brockman, Janell Brockman, Madison Reed, Mabry Reed, Turner Brockman, Reagan Ramirez and Remy Ramirez; brother, Buddy Laird of Katy, TX, sisters Pat Moore and Cindy Parkis of Odessa, TX. and numerous nieces and nephews. He was deeply loved by his family and friends and will be greatly missed.
