In Memory of

Myrna Jo Thompson

(March 10, 1940 - April 4, 2012)

On April 4, 2012, Myrna went to be with her Lord and Saviour after a two year hard fought battle with ovarian cancer. Myrna was born to Chester Wayne and Florene Phillips in the south Texas rural oilfield community of Freer on March 10, 1940. She and her family later moved to Odessa, Texas where she attended junior and senior high school.

Always outgoing, she entered and won several beauty contests as a senior at Odessa High and later in college at Texas Tech where she met the love or her life, Dan. Among her several titles were "Miss West Texas" and first runner up in the "Miss Texas" pageant. While at Tech she became a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority and later served at the collegiate and national levels. In August, 1959 she and Dan were married in Odessa, Texas and began life on a remote ranch between Seminole and Seagraves, Texas. They later moved to Arlington, Texas and Sandy, Utah before moving back to Dallas. A devoted loving mother and wife, and later a "Grammie", Myrna left her mark on her family. After Dan's retirement from Siemens, they split time between their home in Dallas and their Thompson Ranch near Llano, Texas.

She was heavily involved with Preston Hollow United Methodist Church. She was a member of the WGA at Royal Oaks Country Club and loved to visit with fellow members and play golf. Myrna also loved to travel and among her favorite trips were trips to the Colorado Mountains in the summer and to Hawaii any time of the year.

She is preceded in death by her parents. Surviving her are husband, Dan, their daughter Tianna Borowski with husband, Bill and their daughter Marie Jo; their son Todd Thompson and his wife, Xan, their sons, Case and Dayton; her "brothers dear", Jerry and wife Cyndi and Gregory and wife Vicky and their respective families as well as nieces, cousins, in-laws and too many friends to count whose lives she touched.

Prior to her passing away, she requested that donations be made to either Preston Hollow United Methodist Church at 6315 Walnut Hill Lane, Dallas, Texas 75230 or to her sorority's education fund thru Delta Delta Delta, 2331 Brookhollow Plaza D Arlington, Texas 76006. Thank you God for your gift to us.

Note From Richard Porter, 4-8-2012

Myrna's funeral was moving and warm.  She had a ton of friends and the church sanctuary was overflowing.  The comments from her family and the pastor were touching and sincere.

Liz and I decided to forego the reception at the country club as we didn't see anyone we knew so we'd be visiting with each other.  We decided to do that at home.

P. S.  The red roses and white lilies floral spray Linda (Sides) sent was very evident among the many displays.
