Max Burnett Lloyd, better known as radio broadcaster “Max Howard,” was born May 14, 1940, in Ada, Oklahoma, to Max Howard Lloyd and Margarette Burnett Furner. He was a member of the Chickasaw Indian Nation.

Max attended Odessa High School, Odessa College and East Central State Teachers College (Ada, Oklahoma). He worked in the circulation department of the Odessa American for several years before going into broadcasting in 1961. Max worked for KRIG prior to helping create KNFM, the first FM stereo station in West Texas. He was sales manager and part owner of KNFM, later KNFM-KNAM, until 1980 when the station was sold. At KNFM, Max appeared on “Breakfast a la Carte," a morning show where he teamed with Mike McLaren as “Mike on the Left, Max on the Right” in stereo. He also worked with McLaren to create award-winning musical specials on jazz and Big Band history. Max also served as marketing director for Western State Bank and held other sales and on-air positions prior to his retirement. His signature sign-off to all his broadcasts was “Music is my business.” Max was an active volunteer for West Texas Jazz Society, Midland Community Theatre and Maverick Players. He was a proud fan of Star Trek.

He was preceded in death by his parents. His survivors include two half brothers, Jeff Lloyd of Oklahoma City, and Greg Lloyd of Paul’s Valley, Oklahoma, and two half sisters, Kim Lloyd of Oklahoma City and Pam Lloyd of Florida. He is also survived by several cousins.

No formal funeral service is planned. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Although no pallbearers will be needed, Max wanted Captain James T. Kirk designated as an honorary pallbearer. Consider it done. Arrangements are under the direction of Ellis Funeral Home. To place on-line condolences visit www.mem.com.
