Boyce Alexander (1957)

I have known Jerry since the 6th grade at Fannin elementary. Jerry was in the 5th grade when I was in the 6th.  Jerry was a super athlete in football and baseball.  We played baseball in our neighborhood in the summer and in the Little League and Pony League but never on the same team.  Jerry and I both were pitchers and I always hated to see him come up to the plate because I seldom could strike him out and he would just smile at me from tthe batter's box because he knew that he was going to get a hit.  We played football on same team from Fannin Elementary, Crockett Jr High and OHS. Jerry was a fairly private person but once you got to know him he was a very compassionate friend to have.  I can say that I have been blessed to have had Jerry as a friend and he will be truly missed. RIP FRIEND !!

I am shocked to learn of Gerald's death.  He was one of the oldest friends I can remember from growing up in Odessa.  Like Boyce Alexander I knew Gerald from the neighborhood.  He grew up two blocks from me on North Lauderdale Street.  Boyce lived across West 7th Street and two houses from me.  Gerald and I were in the same grade and played football and baseball together through elementary at Fannin, junior high at Crockett and high school at OHS as well as Little League, Pony League and American Legion baseball.  Our young years were spent throwing rocks at each other but we eventually grew to be great friends.  While we didn't stay in touch very well it was always a great time of reminiscing and laughing when we got together at reunions.  If there was a gang on the west side of town I guess it would have been Gerald, Boyce, Richard Alsup, Richard Stringer, Tommy Nickel, Ray Griggs and I.  We had a wonderful time growing up.  I will miss Gerald.  He had been on my mind a lot lately.  I know he has his gear ready and will be pitching for a great team in Heaven.  But if you ever hit against him in batting practice don't hit a couple of line drives back at him.  The next one he thows will be to dust you off.  Rest in Peace, Gerald.
