Dr. John William Martinez
 MIDLAND Dr. John William Martinez, a former educator who held various educational posts in Texas ranging from teacher to director of bilingual education, returned to his celestial home on Monday, October 1, 2012. He was 71.
 
Having grown up in Odessa, the majority of his time in education was spent in Midland. 
 
Humble, he always tried to play down his contributions whether they were intellectual, social, spiritual, or familial. He will be remembered for his humor, his inquisitiveness, and his devotion.
 
John was preceded in death by his parents, Estanislado and Elidia Martinez. 
 
He is survived by his loving wife, Corine Martinez of Midland; his two sons, Javier Martinez of Houston, Texas, and John Anthony Martinez and wife, Michelle of Uvalde, Texas; two brothers, Rodolfo Martinez of Mesquite, Texas, and Robert Martinez of Plano, Texas. John is also survived by two grandchildren, Anabella Martinez and Alejandra Martinez, both of Uvalde; numerous uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces, and cousins. 
 
The Funeral mass was held Thursday, October 4, 2012. Monsignor James Bridges presided.
 
Funeral service was under the direction of Lewallen-Garcia-Pipkin Funeral Home and Chapel.
