ODESSA Ray C. Ives Jr., 72, of Odessa passed away Friday, April 4, 2003, at Hospice House after a lengthy illness. He was born Aug. 21, 1930 in Ingleside.
Ray served in the U.S. Army's Signal Corp and later graduated from Baylor University. He worked as an assistant coach for Odessa High School and later as a stock broker and investment banker. He retired from product development after having two products patented.
Ray would want everyone to know that he was saved from an alcoholic death by Jesus Christ on May 8, 1975, in Sante Fe, N.M. He was active in AA for many years until prevented by his health. He was a qualified testimony speaker for Gideons International and loved to share his story whenever possible.
Ray was a Baptist by faith and moved to Odessa from Dallas in 2001 to be near his son and grandsons. He loved his apartment at Disciples Village and made many good friends there.
He was preceded in death by his son, Bradley Ives, on Oct. 16, 1988.
He is survived by one son, David R. Ives and his wife, Angelia, of Odessa; sisters, Juanita Nix and her husband, Emery of Blanco, and Norma Ray Cole of Fort Worth; and two grandsons, Colin and Brian Ives, both of Odessa.
Public visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, April 6, 2003, at Odessa Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, April 7, 2003, at Odessa Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Johnny Dickerson officiating.
The family requests memorials be made to Hospice House, 903 N. Sam Houston Ave., Odessa, Texas, 79761, or Gideons International in Nashville, Tenn.
