Teddy Barrett Banner "Ted"

 

TRUSSVILLE, ALA. Teddy (Ted) Barrett Banner passed away Sunday, Sept. 6, 2009, at his home, 46 Dogwood Lane, Birmingham, Ala., 35215.

Ted was born in Hobbs, N.M., on Nov. 11, 1938, to Paul and Virginia Banner. In 1944, the family moved to the West Texas oilfield community of North Cowden, about 20 miles northwest of Odessa. He attended school at Goldsmith Elementary, Crockett Junior High and Odessa High School, graduating in 1957, and finished his education at Texas Tech.

Ted served in the United States Marine Corps from 1957 to 1963. Ted and wife, Sue, who preceded him in death, were married in 1961 in Odessa and raised their family there. He retired from IBM in 1989, but continued working in computer technical support industry until February 2008.

Ted is survived by three sons, Bruce, Timothy, Tony; and five grandchildren, Samantha, Victoria, Dan­ielle, Paul and Julie; as well as his brother, Nick Banner and wife, Jannee of Midland.

His family and many friends will miss him. A memorial service will be held today at 2 p.m. at the Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home in Trussville, Ala. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Christopher and Dana Reeves Foundation.

09-09-2009:  According to Joyce (Cooper) Porter, OHS1958, Ted Banner suffered a freak accident not too long ago when he fell off his roof and suffered injuries which left him a paraplegic.
