 ODESSA Charles W. Handley, 74, of Odessa, died Saturday, November 17, 2012, at Medical Center Hospital. He was born October 20, 1938 in Bivins, Texas to Jim and Syble Handley.
The family moved from East Texas to Odessa in 1952. Charles was a 1957 graduate of Odessa High School. After school he worked as a parts and service manager at several Odessa businesses prior to joining Sewell Ford in the late 1970's, he retired as the Truck Service Manager after 24 years. As a young man he played the drums with several local bands including local favorite, Roy Orbison. In retirement he enjoyed to travel to Hobbs, Ruidoso, Las Vegas, Laughlin and Tunic, Mississippi as well as to Oklahoma to visit with his aunts-in-law. Charles did carpenter work, laid tile, and plumbing - just a general handyman. He was also a 10 year survivor of throat cancer. Charles married Thelma Harp on August 6, 1965 in Odessa.
Preceded in death by his parents, Jim & Syble Handley and older brother J. W. Handley.
Survivors include his wife, Thelma of Odessa; brother, Dwain Handley and wife Margie of Odessa; son, Charles R. Handley and wife Becca and their children Morgan, Madison and Alex of El Paso; daughter, Linda Ann Moss and children Michael and Erica of Charlotte, NC; brother-in-law, Don Harp and wife Linda of Huntsville, AL , and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Wednesday, November 21, 2012 at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Don Allen officiating and Troy Stevenson assisting. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be 5:00 – 7:00 PM Tuesday, November 20, 2012 at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home.
