Obituary

If you're ever hoping for a good, solid opinion on a matter, stop. Consider Dwaine Crawford, (you probably knew him as "Buddy", "Pops", or "Double") who entered eternal life on December 17, 2014. He was a straight shooter and one who would tell you, "Everyone has an opinion, and we were all entitled to his."
Dwaine was preceded in death by his father, George Crawford, and his mother, Nadine Crawford Rape. He was also greeted in heaven by his siblings, Joyce Clark and Kenneth Crawford. His love will be forever cherished by the light of his life, his dancing partner, fishing companion, and high school sweetheart, Vera Heard Crawford of Kingsland, Texas. Dwaine leaves behind daughter Kim Crawford and granddaughter Alexandra of Austin, Texas. He leaves daughter Kelly, Jimmy and Shelby Mullis of Kingsland, Texas, and granddaughter Katy and fiancé Joseph Cantu of Austin, Texas. He will be cherished by daughter Kory Toro of Austin, Texas, granddaughter Chelsea and Michael Delaney of Red Bank, New Jersey. He is also survived by Luis Toro of Puerto Rico and son Jose Toro of Dallas, Texas. His surviving siblings and treasured companions are his sister, Elaine and Larry Thornhill of Shiner, Texas; his brother, Ronnie Crawford and Vicky of Raeford, North Carolina; and his brother, Johnny Crawford and Brenda of Wimberley, Texas. He was adored by many nieces and nephews, as well as great-nieces and nephews.
Dwaine was a resident of Odessa, Texas for many years, attending Odessa and Ector High Schools, where he met Vera, and would later raise a family. Our Pops was a member of the Chuck Wagon Gang. He served as a member on the Board of Directors for Kenner's, and as a member of the Fraternal Order of The Eagles. He was a well-rounded man metaphorically and physically, of course. He was an avid fisherman and loyal Cowboys fan, and you could often find him whipping up something in the kitchen or firing up the grill. He also was no stranger to the outdoors or boating, and never found a hammock he didn't like. He had many experiences and taught us many lessons. Throughout his life he was the owner of The Burger Barn and Quick Stop grocery in Odessa, Texas, as well as Mr. C's Burger Barn in Pflugerville, Texas. He was also an employee of Capital Metro transit system, before retiring to the Guadalupe River in Gonzales, Texas. He was never short on words or wisdom, or opinions for that matter, except that one time when he "had no opinion on that." The world stopped turning when Dwaine had no opinion, and we will forever miss his two cents. We will miss his baby blue eyes, his belly laugh, bald head, and one-liners that would bring you to your knees with laughter. We will miss his sense of humor that he never lost, even in the end. He was our mentor, captain, Daddy, our Pops, our Buddy, our friend, our Mr. C, and we will love him forever.
A memorial service celebrating his life will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, December 27, 2014 at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home in Pflugerville.
