BRENDA BELCHER, OHS 1958

Brenda Joyce (Belcher) Sims, 81, of Corsicana and formerly of Hubbard, passed away peacefully Tuesday, January 26, 2021 in Corsicana. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, January 30 at Wade Funeral Chapel in Hubbard with Rev. Ricky Woodall officiating. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Friday, January 29 at the funeral home.

Brenda was born in Baton Rogue, Louisiana on December 17, 1939 to John Cook Belcher and Margie Harris Belcher. Soon after her birth, her family moved to Odessa, Texas where her father worked in the oil fields. She graduated from Odessa High school in 1958. While in High school she played tennis and the piano. Following her high school years she studied business in Denton, Texas at North Texas State University. After Brenda had her house full with four children, she decided not to work in order that she could concentrate on raising, loving and nurturing her four sons. In 1979 she and her family moved to Hubbard, Texas for a new job opportunity and have called Hubbard home ever since .

Brenda was a longtime fixture of the community in Hubbard, teaching at the high school, playing piano at the Methodist Church for decades, running the swimming pool in the summer for years, and later attending services at the Baptist and Episcopal churches. She was famously fierce as a teacher and parent, with attention to fairness and education. She appreciated folks from all backgrounds and all walks of life. She was a gracious lady, smart but humble

She is survived by two of her siblings, John Winston Belcher and Luanna Peters(Aunt Lulu); her sons that all grew up in Hubbard are Randy, Chris (deceased), Scott and Steven Stone; four daughters-in-law Aileen, Holli, Sarah, and Queena; and six grandchildren Rick, Allyssa, Lauryn, Lyla, Priscilla and Hannah.

She will be buried next to her late husband Mike Sims at Fairview Cemetery in Hubbard, Texas.
