Bonnie Lewis Obituary

Bonnie Marie Lewis (Keenan), our beautiful mother and friend, passed away peacefully at home, in San Antonio, TX, on Tuesday, August 29, 2023. Bonnie was born in Okmulgee, OK on July 19, 1940. As the only surviving child of Thomas Jefferson Keenan and Melvie Mae Smith, Bonnie was a ray of sunshine to her parents and every person she met in her 83 years of life. Bonnie lived her childhood years in Oklahoma and high school years in Odessa, TX, (Odessa High School, "Class of 1958"). She loved going to the movies and spending time with family and friends. In Odessa she met her first husband, Gene W. Ables and they were married in the summer of 1958. They moved to Kerrville, TX and had 3 children, Tommy Lynn Ables, Teresa Marie Ables and Clark Eugene Ables. She tells stories of building houses with Gene in Kerrville and the two times they moved to California and back. In 1977, Bonnie married her second husband, Bobby Gene Lewis. They had a surprise child a few years later, Patricia Lynn Lewis. Over the years Bonnie worked as a carhop in high school, a Sunday school teacher, and an administrative assistant for several companies including La Quinta and Freese and Nichols. She loved a good hamburger and she even had a hamburger stand called Bonnie's Cantina. Bonnie is remembered as a loving person, always willing to help others in need and share her wisdom and life stories. She was the best mother to her four children, a wealth of love to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Bonnie's life was full of love as well as trial and tribulations. She lived through the good and bad with grace and dignity, always looking to her savior, Jesus Christ, for guidance and peace. Bonnie is preceded in death by her mother and father, husbands Gene and Bobby, and children Tommy and Teresa. She is survived by her children Clark and Patricia and son-law Jesse J. Perez Jr., grandchildren Ala Marie Jacobson, Jesse J. Perez III, and Lucille Lynn Perez and great-grandchildren Eve Marie Jacobson and June Marie Ibarra Jacobson. Bonnie will be greatly missed and her life always celebrated, she was the most amazing person. Please join us in celebrating her life. Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, September 23rd at 12 noon at Mission City Church, 2220 NW Military Hwy, San Antonio, TX 78213.
