Suzan Benbow Taff (OHS 1958)
JANUARY 12, 1940 – AUGUST 28, 2025

IN THE CARE OF
Suzan Benbow Taff (OHS'58), a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and lifelong servant to her community, passed away peacefully on August 28, 2025, at the age of 85.
Born in Levelland, Texas, to F. A. Benbow and Ruby Graham Benbow, Suzan spent her early years in Levelland before moving to Odessa, where she (OHS'58) met and married the love of her life, Bill M. Taff (OHS'57). Together, they built a home filled with love, faith, and a deep commitment to service.
Suzan earned her Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from the University of Texas at Austin in 1962. Over the next 40 years, she devoted her career to hospital pharmacy, serving in leadership roles at Methodist Hospital and RIOSA, retiring as Director of Pharmacy. Her compassion, skill, and integrity were felt by patients, colleagues, and students alike. Suzan was also an active leader in the Texas State Board of Pharmacy, American Society of Health System Pharmacists and the Texas Society of Health Sytem Pharmacists. A founding president of the Southeast Texas Society of Hospital Pharmacists and a recipient of the Louis Smith Hospital Achievement Award, Suzan’s impact in the field of pharmacy was both lasting and profound.
Suzan’s heart for service extended far beyond her profession. She generously gave her time to organizations such as Friends of Hospice, Ronald McDonald House, Grace House, Christian Assistance Ministries, and United Way. Her leadership within the Alpha Phi sorority and the San Antonio Panhellenic Association—where she held numerous roles including President, Treasurer, Scholarship Chair and recipient of the Merit Award—reflected her dedication to empowering women and fostering community.
But perhaps most memorable was Suzan’s profound grace and kindness. She radiated Christ’s love through her unwavering positivity, her welcoming smile, and her gentle spirit. Never uttering a harsh word, she became a living reflection of His love, offering warmth, encouragement, and hope to everyone who crossed her path. Her home and heart were always open. Her life was a testament to the light of Christ, shining brightly in all she did and touching the hearts of all who knew her.
Suzan’s greatest joy was her family. Affectionately known as “Gigi”, she was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who treasured every moment with her loved ones—especially her grandsons. Whether cheering at games, attending school events, or spending quiet time at the family ranch, Gigi's love was constant and unconditional.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Jo Allen Benbow, in-laws Walter and Kathleen Taff, and her beloved husband, Bill M. Taff.
Suzan is survived by her children, Colin Taff (Jill Coffey) of Lumberton, TX, and Ashley Sinclair (Foster); her grandchildren, Hayden Gee (Rebekah), Samuel Gee, Steven Sinclair, Cullen Sinclair (Rachel), Jason Coffey, and Jenna Coffey; and her great-grandchild, Evelyn Sinclair. She also leaves behind many cherished cousins, friends, and colleagues who will deeply miss her.
A memorial service to celebrate Suzan’s life will be held on September 29, 2025 at 10:30 am at University Methodist. Church, 5084 De Zavala Rd, San Antonio, TX. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to University Methodist Church or MD Anderson Cancer Center.
