Thomas W. McMorris was born November 7, 1940 in Oklahoma City, he passed away on May 9, 2024 after a brief illness. He is survived by his son, Ryan McMorris born in 1975, and preceded in death by his mother, Mrs. Helen Tillman McMorris, and his wife of 54 years, Carol Weingartner McMorris.
Tom was raised in Odessa, Texas where he graduated from Odessa High School in 1958. After high school, he attended Sul Ross and Odessa College before enlisting in the United States Marine Corps, serving from 1961 through 1965.
After his service, he obtained a BBA at Texas Tech University where he met his future wife. They married in Marble Falls in 1967 and moved to the San Antonio area where he launched his long and successful banking career and Carol began hers as a public school teacher. Beginning as a Bank Examiner in San Antonio from 1967 to 1970, Tom went on to manage community banks as president in Universal City, Kerrville, Austin and San Antonio. He worked over 40 years in the industry, which included National Bancshares Corporation of Texas and Bank of America in San Antonio.
in 1973, he graduated from Southwestern Graduate School of Banking in Dallas, Texas, and in 1977 obtained his MBA from the University of Texas in San Antonio, Texas and Credit Risk Certification Risk Management Associate in 2008. HIs continued education and development made him a sought-after problem-solver for troubled banks.
Always eager for new achievements, Tom obtained a private pilots license, which was a source of some pride. Later in life, Tom learned to play classical guitar, which gave him joy and satisfaction.
