Gail Wheeler Gable Pool
August 26, 1940 — May 21, 2026
Odessa, Texas
Coletta Gail (Wheeler) Gable Pool trusted in Jesus as her Savior, was baptized as a young woman, and lived a lifetime of faith. On Thursday, May 21, 2026, at the age of 85, her faith became sight as she went Home to Heaven and entered into rest.
Gail was born on August 26,1940 to Oscar Edmond Wheeler and Mabel Nora Witten Wheeler at the home of her paternal grandparents in Gracemont, Oklahoma. Gail grew up as an only child, living in Oklahoma and California before eventually moving to Odessa, Texas with her family as a young teenager. She graduated from Odessa High School at midterm of her senior year, January 1958. She married Billy Joe Gable on December 24,1957 and they built a happy life together for 28 years, raising their two children, Tammy and Greg, the pride and joy of her life. Gail and Bill divorced in 1986 but remained friends throughout the years.
Gail worked hard for her family and really enjoyed her profession as a legal assistant for many years. She was proud to be a part of the Shafer Law Firm.
On October 21, 1989, Gail married Curtis A. Pool and found a new happiness. Together they enjoyed dancing, traveling, visiting museums, attending church, and just living a full life for the amazing 7 years they had before Curtis’ death in 1996.
Gail was a faithful member, active and supportive, of her churches through the years. Early on, she was a member of Grace Baptist and then Calvary Baptist, where she was a charter member. In 1982, she joined Temple Baptist/Crossroads Fellowship where she remained until her joyous homegoing.
First and foremost, Gail loved her Lord and deeply loved her family. She also loved her dogs and grand-dogs, all things purple, her ladies Bible study, traveling with her special group of friends, her water aerobics, Dr. Seuss books, Hallmark movies, and a good episode of Dateline! Gail was constantly expanding her knowledge by reading and even attending seminars when she could. She imparted so much wisdom and information to those of us who usually desperately needed it along with her kind encouragement and support. She was devoted, responsible, fiercely independent, and practical always. She was the true matriarch of our family, a rock-solid and stable source of love, faith, wisdom, and strength. She could always be counted on to pray for us and support us. She was kind and loving, an amazing mother, grandmother and great grandmother—our “Grami”. She loved and adored her two grandchildren, Tyler and Holly, and her 4 little grands, Callum, Ellie, Mia and Amy, with all her heart. When they would say “I love you,” she would reply with “I loved you first!” She consistently thought of and cared about all of us and regularly gave us articles to read and newspaper comics to smile at! We are so thankful that God chose to give her to us. She will be deeply missed, but we are rejoicing in the fact that her pain is no more and we will see her again in the perfection of Heaven!
She was preceded in death by her grandparents; her parents, Oscar Edmond Wheeler and Mabel Nora Wheeler; her stepbrothers, Theron Wheeler and Steve Wheeler; her first husband and friend Billy Joe Gable; her husband Curtis Pool; and her grandson Tyler Hendricks.
Gail is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Tammy and Steve Hendricks of Odessa; her son and daughter-in-law Greg and Carolyn Gable of Benbrook; granddaughter Holly Anders and her husband Jon of Lubbock; granddaughter-in-law Kelsie Hendricks of Lufkin; great grandchildren Callum Anders, Eleanor Anders, Mia Hendricks and Amy Hendricks. She is also survived by her former brother-in-law and sister-in-law Jim and LaJuana Gable of Boerne; sister-in-law Pat Gable of Leander; nieces and nephew Kelly Kullenberg, Stacey Herzog, Donna James-Spruce, Jay Gable; and numerous other nieces, nephews and cousins.
A viewing will be held at Sunset Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home on Monday, June 1, 2026, anytime between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm. A memorial service and celebration of Gail’s life will be held on Tuesday, June 2, 2026 at 10:00 am in the chapel of Crossroads Fellowship Church in Odessa with a reception to follow.
