Thomas was born in Dover, Oklahoma, the son of Nellie Terrell and Frank E. Mills. His family moved to Odessa, Texas where he was attending school. On July 7, 1957 the summer before his senior year at Odessa High School, he and his best friend, Fred Douglas Akers, Jr. were on an outing and were swimming in the Pecos River, near Balmorrhea, Texas. They were on a private ranch and they were exploring the many caves underwater along the river. They both drown. Tommy was returned to his family's home in Dover, Oklahoma where he was buried. |
